What is this 'mystery connector' - 1987 3.2

I just discovered an electrical connector in the engine compartment that I can't identify. Probably everybody but me knows what this is, and I'm hoping someone will solve this mystery for me. Driver's side.

Many thanks,

Rob

O2 sensor connection. It's a must to have that connected on a 3.2 motronic.

Yikes... Now, I'm wondering if I even have an O2 sensor... the car is fitted with SSIs and is "cat-less". Funny that neither Ed Mayo nor Tom Petrushka have mentioned this connector. Now, I'm really confused.

I haven't ran with an 02 sensor for a few years now. I unplugged it and installed a wideband 02 for my AFR gauge. Never noticed any performance difference plugged in or unplugged.

Update: So, I just looked... nope, no O2 sensor. There is a screw-in plug in the SSIs where the sensor would go.

If you feel like you absolutely need an o2 sensor, I have one that I bought new when I put my engine in about 4 years ago that I then took out when I installed my wideband. Its yours if you want it and I can still find it.

Wow, that's very generous of you! Sure, it's worth hooking the thing up if for no other reason than to see if it makes any difference. Thanks!

Rob

Steve Wong recommended I use one, and mine runs better with the o2 sensor. If you can find the mating side plug you can wire in a generic Bosch 2 wire sensor.

Note that there is a similar plug for the rear window heater but I don't know that it's identical.

I'll take a look in my shop this evening and PM you if I find it. To be totally honest though, you're not going to notice a difference, I never did. I was told when I put my Motronic in with a new chip that I shouldn't run the O2 and while I was doing engine checks to unplug it as well.

I wonder why Steve W recommends that. He must use it as part of his tuning.

I looked for it this evening and didn't find it. But there's no quit in me! I'll look again tomorrow. I don't think I would have pitched it because it was only used for a year. Will keep you informed of progress or lack thereof.

Thanks a million... I appreciate both your generosity and your persistence!

If you end up buying one you need a three wire unit that has a heater in it. I would buy the sensor that coincides with your harness.Looks neater than splicing wires. Worth the extra$.

I searched my shop today and when a friend came over we both searched... and I couldn't find it. For the life of me I don't remember throwing it away because it was still a good part and even if I wasn't going to use it, It's not like me to just pitch it.

Sorry..

It'll probably turn up when I'm not looking for it.

Thanks, Cab.. I'm grateful for your interest and the very generous gesture. Have a great week!
