Going with the Wheel adaptors
Okay. After reading through your replies, I decided to go with the adaptors for now. I can also easily take off the adaptor and get the original spacing back if I decide I didn't like it.
There's apparently two choices for adaptor, the H&R 21 mm or the Weltmeister 25mm. The problem is that they can't be used with wheels that has a flat rear surface (due to the original studs longer than the adaptor and will not provide a flat mounting surface). I'm planning to use my original Fuchs. Anybody knows whether this'll work or not before I order them and start taking off my rear wheels?

I got the 21mm H&R, the bolts do stick out, but they fit nicely into the recessed petals of my fuchs.

Thanks for the info, guys.
Alfred, how much do they stick out? I',m thinking I might get the 28mms. The spaces seems awful big for just 21mms. The 28mm is just .12 inches wider. That'll do until I can afford the 17" Rufs

I ran the 28mm H&R adapters on the rear of my previous Carrera with stock 7" Fuchs with no prob. I'm thinking you could even get away with the 32mm ones. Excellent quality too.

Does not stick out at all, i think it is just right. My car is sitting at about 24.75 in the rear so it is a little tighter than a car that is higher. Here are some pics...

I did H&R 21's, if I had it to do over, I'd probably do 28's if I could confirm I would not have to roll the fenders after lowering the car.
A couple of before and after pics here.

A win-win solution would be to dial in a little neg. camber. Then, you could use wider spacers (or wheels), without the need to roll the lips, and still run the same lower ride height. My previous (`88) Carrera was set at -1.8 in the rear, with 28mm spacers on 7" Fuchs (225's), at 24.75" ride height. There was plenty of clearance (could have gone with 32mm's) with un-rolled lips, and no uneven tire wear whatsoever. That, plus a good matching front set-up (say -1 to -1.2) equals better handling without compromising tread wear or "driveability".
