G50 tranny shortened
I finally finished shortening the G50 tranny. I didn't find it as hard as I thought it would be. A couple notes if you want to try to do it yourself. Go slow. Get the factory manual. Buy a 4 special tools. Don't take apart the syncros if you can avoid it. Get a toaster oven in the garage to heat the parts. Here are some pics

Dean,
can you explain what you had to do to shorten it? Did you just shorten the bell housing? I thought the main shaft also had to be shortened? Thanks, Berardino 84 930 |

You have to completely disassemble the tranny to the bare case and the bare input shaft. You even have to take the studs and dowels out to mach the case. Then you send it to a mach. shop and they mach. the case and input shaft. They shorten them to a spec that matches the clutch that you are going to use. Then you have to assemble the unit.
