Alternator Air Guide
Alternator has been out so long I forgot how to get it back in. Which way does the air guide mount? Fins on top, bottom, drivers side, passengers side???

Maybe this bulletin will help ...

Hint:
If instead you have the 84-89 Carrera. you will find the regulator on top ( instead of on the bottom as is the case with the bulletin meant to update SC's), then ..the fins are upside down as shown. ---Wil Ferch |
Hmmm. I now see that the air guide has an opening to fit around the regulator so that's easy. But is the the regulator supposd to be on top or on the bottom? I can rotate the alternator to any position.

Hello...read the entire response. Put the alternator in with the regulator on top. Air guide slid right in and helps direct air towards the drivers side of engine just as described. Thanks for the help.

One cheat to is to look inside the shroud and you should see the marks (from years of air and dirt flowing through) where the fins lineup.

North Coast Cab:
Correct..for your 84, the regulator would be on top. See also my guest article in the Pelican Tech section on alternator/regulator repair and replacement. Goes into all the fine points like this... --Wil Ferch |
It's in. Thanks for the help. And another positive note...first turn of the key in three months and she fired right up. Unfortunately it's 17 degrees outside.
