New or Vintage Fuchs

Hey guys,

I'm looking at two options as I'm only interested in the getting the real things at this point. I'm looking at a set of used 1979 Fuchs 7 and 8s.....or I can grab the newly reissued Porsche factory Fuchs remakes now in production. I m trying to keep my car as original as possible but the original owner got rid of his Fuchs for BBS wheels in 83.

Pros and cons are obvious...new vs old...my question is .....is the value of the car better with the vintage set even though the year does not match the car? If not the price point on the new and the old Fuchs is pretty close. Also, with the new one I could go with 9s in the back for the same cost.

Thoughts? Opinions? Help me out here...its a big ticket and I'm curious what the group thinks.

IMHO - hands down get the new. Once this production run of new vintage sizes are sold out you may never get the chance to buy new again.

So you don't think they'll keep making them for a while? Also, with the list of available 245/45 16 non track tires getting so few...should I stay with the 8s instead of 9s in the back if I do go new? With 8s in the back I can run 225s and there are still lots of options.

I am very partial to the 7/8 set up. 9's are over kill.

The demand for the vintage sizes is a shrinking market. At most, I think there may be one more production run. I would grab the wheels while they are available. But this is just a guess on my part.

I agree with Roswell. Since neither choice would be the original wheels for the car, there will be no future value difference to speak of. The new ones will be ready to go, the old ones are at least 30 years old. While forged Fuchs are great wheels and very durable, the new ones would be my choice.

I also agree that due to the lack of correct fitting tires for the 9” wheels, I’d stick with 7s and 8s.
