Ruf turbo on autobahn, history channel

Anybody catch the history channel last night, they had a modern marvels on about the german autobahn. Very interesting. They opened the show by showing a Ruf mechanic test a new Ruf turbo up to 212 mph at night prior to delivery. It was fairly insightful as far as differences between here and there (road wise not people wise) The surface is 27" thick instead of our 11-14" and lasts twice as long. They do not allow potholes to exist.

They were also good enough to strongly point out the differences in how traffic laws are taken more serious in the fatherland and that they have a lower death rate per mile than we do.

There were also several clips of Porsches (356's and early 911's en mass on the roads, very cool!!
Overall an enjoyable show.

Yeah, I really enjoyed that show. It's funny how in the US, we took the quick and dirty approach to interstate highway construction as compared to the autobahn. Our driver's licensing is a joke...most people think it's their "God-given right." Also, I have a better understanding about why Porsche's were sans cupholders...who could/would fumble around for their coffee cup at 212 mph?

that one author did pile on the whole cup holder thing big time. i was laughing my ace off when that was going down. why was the testing done at night do you suppose?

(bay area reference)it made me feel like a speed run up 280 from los altos to the 92/halfmoon bay turn around.

Because nighttime is the only time you can drive 212 mph for any length of time on the Autobahn - it gets too busy during the day.
