Going without pedal rubber

I rebuilt my pedal cluster this spring and just realized I never reinstalled the rubber pedal pads. I think I like it without them. Does anyone else run without?

On the track car we put non skid tape on the brake and clutch pedals.

My 914 didn't have a cover on the clutch pedal for the first couple weeks that I had it and it tore a chunk out of my left sneaker. It's the same size as the 911 pedals, so I assume you have the same risk depending on the shoe. Factory pedal covers are dirt cheap and give better pedal feel than the bare metal for every day use in my opinion.

I took out the rubber bits on my Rennline adjustable pedals because they wear very quickly and become very slippery. I put 3M non-skid tape on them. Amazing stuff but needs to replaced every few months. No big deal. Man does the tape work amazing.

No tracking with my car but I haven't had the rubber covers on the pedals since I put it on the road 4 years ago.

If you turn up for an Annual Vehicle Test in the UK (Known as an MOT) they will fail a car that doesn't have a non-slip pad on the brake pedal.

I have aluminum pedal covers installed by a PO. They're great, but if your shoe soles are wet they do slip off the clutch and brake pedals.

I didn't install the rubber back on my brake and clutch pedals either after I refurbed the brakes.

I had removed the brake and clutch pedal covers and one day driving to work, I was running thru the gears and my foot completely slipped up the clutch pedal. I put them back on as soon as I got home.

Don't drive with leather soled shoes.

put the rubber pad back on. the gas pedal could be metal no problem but brake and clutch pedals need to be rubber. once wet, they slip. don't risk it. so i have rennline brake and clutch pedals for sale, but i wouldn't sell as they are dangerous.

Interesting comment. Once the rubber is gone, they are slippery. And over the years, mine have become polished smooth with wear. In other words, more slippery. I've replaced the rubber dots numerous times, when new, the pedals are no longer slippery but they wear out pretty quick.

I love the adjustable gas pedal tho! Non-slip tape all around for me on the Rennlines and I'm happy
