Can someone identify this part?
It looks like some kind of jack placement mount, but I am missing on my passenger side.
I'd like to just replace both of them... opinions? Any idea what this is called so that I can see if our host sells these or some other supplier?? Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508290803.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508290803.JPG |
That’s the jack receiver .
Probably in pet under “collision” |

Btw , a lot of euro cars see problems with rust under the lifting pad , to the point you can poke a hole through by pushing a screwdriver in the hole in the lifting pad
Seeing as your has damage in that area , I’d drill out the spotwelds holding on the lift pad , and remove it to see if any repairs are needed before you weld a new pad on .... I’d also by a jacking puck whilst you’re buying the repair piece , as unless you have a lift an hydraulic floor jack can slip and slide a little when lifting . An aftermarket “puck” helps secure the jack into the hole in the lifting pad . |
It was a part that got added on around 1987 iirc , the year your car is .
Try searching lift reliever , or lift pad . |

Thanks... The passenger side is missing this piece and there are holes in the bottom where this piece probably used to be... that's why I need to find it and order a couple to replace them both. Trying to find it on the interwebz seems to show that the same mount style was used on later model 911s as well. I contacted some other well known vendors that supply restoration sheet metal and even they want me to send a picture to figure out what it is. |
Tell them you’re talking about the lift pads porsche fitted around 87 to enable cars to be lifted on 2-post lifts .
Or maybe try an email to England where this area is being repaired all the time ? Tutthills , canfords , brays etc will know what you’re talking about straight away .... I’m now on an iPad so can’t get pet , so the best I can do is get links to the places mentioned above . http://www.tuthillporsche.com https://canfordclassics.co.uk https://www.rogerbrayrestoration.com . |
Just had a quick look through those 3 websites searching for “lift point” , “jack point” etc and came a cross this ...
Search for "Jack " - Tuthill Porsche |

Just wish I knew the actual part # for it... Being that it is a common place for rust, I'm surprised this part isn't as common as the jacking point tube along the rockers. |
If you get in touch with them guys and explain your in Usa , but an ex-uk guy recommended them they should give you the info even if they don’t sell them you .
