911 SC door locking mechanism question
Hello,
Im wondering if anyone has run into the same issue I have with the locking mechanism on my passenger side door. *** sorry for my poor description as I do not know the name of these actual parts. So i have included a link to a video below.*** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4289nwngRo If I squeeze the door handle while the door is closed and locked, the spring does not push the mechanism back into place. This makes it unable to unlock the door then open it. The video shows how I have to manually move the mechanism back into place, so I can unlock the door, then open it. Any help would be appreciated. thanks! |
I think I have had the same problem a few years ago on my 1978 SC. Look at the photo of a spare lock that I have:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508317978.jpg You will see that the spring on the small shaft does not occupy the complete length; there should be a small circlip (snap-ring) in a groove on the shaft stopping the spring. I can't see the groove in your video but it should be there. You just need to find another circlip or pay $1000 for a new lock! |
thank you so much for the response. i'll take a look at my door when I get a chance. I see what youre saying with the circlip. Hopefully thats the issue with my door.
thanks! |
IF at some point you removed the felt lined metal strip at the top of the door---the one with the little metal mushroom shaped fasteners---and it came off with some of the "mushrooms" breaking off, particularly the one farthest to the rear of the door, rest assured if Murphy is with you that day as he was with me, that last little "mushroom" WILL fall off right into the lock mechanism and give you similar aggravation!
