81 SC instrument bezel help
Im trying to figure out how to take the rings off the instrument clusters. they have some age on them and would like to sand them down and re-paint them. but im stuck on how to take the bezles off, do you turn them left or right or pry them out from the housing?

The first one I tried was really hard but once you see how it is put togther it will make more sense.
Tips... Use a very narrow screw driver and pick a spot. Lever the tip under the back of the bezel where the black meets the silver and turn your screw driver a bit to create a burr or edge. Then working in either direction start prying the black bezel away from the silver part. At first you will think you are doing something wrong and making no headway. The metal will look a little kajangled. After several times all the way around, the bezel can be slipped off. The c shape of the back of the bezel is now straight. After you are done when you put it back together the rear will look a little ragged. I haven't figured out how to re-cup the area so it is smooth...but doesn't show. Wear heavy gloves, sharp work. |
