!987 911 cigarette lighter replacement

The wire, I am guessing positive, has disconnected from the back of the lighter. Is there any way to get behind the dash to re-attach without removing the dash? Because that requires removing the windshield, which not really wanting to do

The connection to the lighter is, IMHO, not very good - just a pin. You don't need to remove the dash/etc. You can get to the back of the dash via the frunk - some air valves and hoses may need to be removed. I redid the lighter connection.

Thanks-I wondered about that, I'll dig in there.

'86 and later dash removal doesn't require windshield removal. Getting to the back of the cigar lighter will be easiest by removing stuff from the trunk side. Dash removal is a royal PITA.

Tip - you can tighten and loosen the cig. lighter by holding the inside and shell in the frunk at the same time. Open the door and reach around, need longish arms. This avoids needing two people.

An "upgrade" while you have the cig. lighter out is to insert a US sized barrel - this allows using various devices such as USB converters. The original cig. lighter hole is the Europe size (larger).

I think I posted some pictures on a thread here. Try to dig that up - if can't I'll look and post link.

Yea, I saw something like that looking how to do it. I have the lighter out now. I have been using it as a cup holder with that device a guy sold a while back.

I tried the trunk, and I think I felt it-do I feed the wire through the hole, and connect it inside the car? And what doe the end of the wire look like, if it has some kind of plug on it, that may be the problem.
