back pressure and a rotted muffler
to what extent will a rotted muffler (i.e., exhaust leaks at the welded section mated to heat exchangers) affect engine performance?
specifically, would the exhaust leaks reduce back pressure enough to cause the car to run poorly? |

I noticed after replacing my muffler, that the number of backfires went down, and it did seem to run better. So yes, I think there is some connection.
