Help - trying to remove inner turbo tie rod end

I replacing my turbo tie rods. I can not get the driver's side to break loose from the steering rack. I'm using a large vice grips. It's biting into the end fine, I just can't get it to budge. I've tried hammering on it a little but I'm afraid to get too crazy with a hammer for fear of hurting the rack. Any suggestions? bigger hammer?

You could try heating it with a torch for a bit. That may help break it free.

If your at your wits end, why dont you remove the whole steering rack from the car, so you will be able to work on it in easier positions.

The counterlocking nuts from the old tie rod are threaded such that they can be locked together on the end of the the tie rod you are removing. This allows you to use a socket and simply turn the tie rod out.

Thanks for the replies. I may end up removing the rack. Or I may just put on a new outer end.

OSS, I don't think your method would work on turbo tie rods. I think the ball joint would spin in the outer housing. Sounds like a great idea for the non turbo tie rods though.
