Removing shift knob on SC

Tried the wrench/hammer method and knob must be frozen on or glued on. Wanted to save the knob but guess it must go. Any suggestion to breaking it off? Plan to make some cuts with a saw on the stem part of the knob and chip away at it.

After 30 some odd years mine was stuck like that...I took a dremel and cut a slot lengthwise on the knob extension....thru the metal expansion collar within the knob then it came off easily.
I did not reuse but you can by simply using some Kwik Weld in the cut slot (paint) and re using the metal crush collar or buying a new one.

Good idea. Thanks!

Thought mine was hopelessly stuck as well. Twisted right off using a plastic strap wrench with a rubber strap. Was even able to re-use the crush sleeve.
It was a craftsman tool, so should be readily available.

Will look into that before trying to cut into it. Strap wrench should come in hand for other projects too
Good ideas guys !
