85 MPH Speedo Replacement

Hello to all of you at the 911 Pelican Board. Although this is my first post, I've been reading you religiously for the last year. This place is really 'THE SOURCE' for anything 911.

I own a 1982 SC with the 'dinky' 85 MPH speedo. What is the best option to replace it? Should I buy a new 150-160 Speedo, find a used one out of a 84-89, or send my original to a speedo shop and have it relabeled and recalibrated?

And what about the 'odo'? I have 81k miles on my SC and I wouldn't want to do anything that will question the validity of it when I sell it down the road.

Thanks in advance.... http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pain30.gif

If you're in the SF bay area (or don't mind shipping), you can have your speedo modified by Palo Alto Speedometers. They charge $128 for new Porsche face and internal pc board modifications. I'm not affiliated and haven't done business with them (yet). I am thinking of doing the same thing and would want to keep my odometer mileage intact as well as save all documentation of the work. www.paspeedo.com

sEND IT OUT AND HAVE IT RE-LABLED AND RECALIBRATED! Make sure you document the work w/ reciepts, and if it is an all original car that you intend to sell as the same, I would go overboard and take a picture of it in the car w/ a current newspaper showing the date, and then do the same when you get it back. That way there is almost NO Question about the validity of the mileage.

Sound like you kind of answered your own question. I had Palo Alto Speedometer do mine, they refaced and recalibrated it for around $120. Turnaround time was about 2 days, but I am local so I dropped it off and picked it up when finished.

North Hollywood speedo offers similar service, and I think someone in Texas does as well. His name came up in another thread a few days ago.
