Owner's Gallery

Many people have made use of the Owner's Gallery - the one that's not a part of Pelican - and posted pictures of their 911s there (hee hee, now we're on topic!).

I've been trying to figure out what to do with the site. I think I'm just going to shut it down, since basically I'm paying around $300 a year to keep it open and it doesn't bring in any revenue. Not that I ask people for money. I had originally hoped to sell the site to Pelican, but Wayne managed to procure his own gallery software.

Any suggestions on what to do with it besides shut it down? I honestly don't want to hand the reins over to someone else, for several fairly sound business reasons concerning intellectual property and liability. I'd like to hear what you think should be done with this community resource.

Since you are only up the road, (I-71-75) a few miles,
I will offer a suggestion. Why not sell a banner or two
to auto related advertiser? Should not only pay for the
site, but might make you enough for an oil change.

Mark, I'm not sure what to suggest. But I know from experience that maintaining a website entails an incredible amount of time. It's fun for a while as a hobby, but starts to seem like work sooner or later. That's when it's time to quit or get paid for it. -- Curt

agree...just charge a small fee...or get some sponsorship or affiliate sites. I would be willing to pay a small fee for my listing.

I'll give it some thought. I really don't like the idea of charging the users of the site - that's instant death for a website - but I'm not terribly interested in the idea of charging advertisers, either.

Mark

How much site visitor traffic are you getting?

I agree, charging people to put the cars up would quickly kill it.

Mmmm, along the lines of a half million hits in 2002; and around 100K pageviews. It gets hit a lot. People like pictures of Porsches.

Mark,

I would have bought it from you a long time ago, if you hadn't come to me asking for a rather larger amount of $$$ (enough to buy a good 911). So instead of forking out $$$, I spent a day and made my own. You basically priced yourself way out of my range...

I would be happy to host the site, but it doesn't seem like you want that based on your comments here...
