I recently ran across a factory hard targa roof and was wondering if anybody can tell me whether it will work on an '85 model ?
Thanks, Ron |

IF you are talking about a "saratoga top" , I think that they were fitted on 83-84 model year. It all depends on which type of latching mechanism it has. You appear to have the newer "carrera version" where this latching mechanism had been changed from the hard top version.

If you are talking about the factory hard top { solid fiberglass} it will fit your car.The factory hard top has a latch that fits all years from 74 to at least 89-911. The c/2 targas i don't know about.

Thanks for the response Jerry, it is a factory fiberglass hard top. I was just unsure as the latch is so different from the soft top.

Ron, the factory top latch hooks into holes on each side of the windshield header on the vertical face. If you feel the vinyl on each side , you can feel the holes in the frame where the latches hook. You will need to cut a small hole in the vinyl. There are factory bezels to cover the edges of the hole in the vinyl. They are no longer available from porsche but they could be made very easly. The latches are adjustable so you can custom fit the top to your car. Check the latches on the top , if they are broke or showing signs of wear,be aware that they are no longer available and would be almost impossible to replace or reproduce.
By the way i also have a factory hard top for sale. Jerry |
