Saw a beast today; help me get over it...

At the Unocal station around the corner, there was a nice old gent (missing most of his lower teeth), who seemed to be of the perennial sort who either never gets married or having been through a nasty divorce, has permanently sworn off women to submerg himself fully into Porsches.

So what is he gassing up with SoCal 91 octance but a 914 with a meaty 400 hp Chevy small block.

The guy gives me the twenty-minute tour of the car, and it was really a sight. The Chev. engine, the clean front radiator setup, the 930 brakes, the fully-adjustable race suspension, the upside down and turned-around 930, the custom-made cable shifter, the f/g body panels -- all of it at 2100 pounds. He's local to N. Hollywood, but races the car at Buttonwillow and Willow Springs. It's blue with one thick (almost) Sahara beige stripe from nose to butt. Anyone out in these parts seen this guy/this car?

I was on my bike (human powered) at the time I saw this beast, and quickly continued my ride so's to purge unclean thoughts of dropping V8s into Porsches, 911 or otherwise (I learned my lesson many threads ago) .

Still, this guy said nothing...NOTHING...can keep up with him on track or street.

I feel like I need an exorcism 'cause I feel like I might want to buy a ratted-out old SC and do the evil V8 thing to it.

Or do I need an exorcism?

I prefer the natural state of things myself, but that doesn't mean that I don't also think a hybrid could be tons of fun.

But then for a 911 I think I'd rather have a turbo motor in a narrow body or a crazy 3.8. I'd save the hybrid stuff for 944's or 914's. (I'm guessing the 944 front isn't wide enough for a V-8 since I never hear of that. I guess an old 928 (one of the early low hp models) would be a good recipient for a Chevy hybrid project, but not the later models.

I pulled up next to a very nice silver 914 with big fenders awhile back. We were doing about 40 on the freeway (traffic...shocking for LA I know) and I could tell it was'nt a 2.0 in there. I held up 6 fingers and he smiled and held up 8. The car looked and sounded great, and I"m willing to bet it was stooopid fast. I may be a reprobate, but I've always liked 914s...

I was at an auto-x last summer. I heard an annoucement that the 911 with the V8 needs to be pushed off the track. That was the only P-car out of 100 that wasn't running.
Sorry (not really) I had to post that

A V8 is nice for power but the wrong SOUND for a 911. Just can't beat the Sound of the of the fan, chains, and exhaust note on the flat six.

I've never owned a 914, but I do autocross my 911 and my respect for 914s is sky high. I do NOT let anyone get away with those negative comments about 914s. The 914 guys seem overall more confident than the 911 guys at autocross and you want to know why? It's because everyone knows they're gonna KICK OUR ASSES.

I can't imagine a more fun car to drive on the planet than a 914 with gobs of horsepower.
