[QUOTE=Canada Kev;9788337]Here's what mine looks like...

As always Kev, you take things to a higher level. Even a frunk light switch is so elegant. SmileWavy

As SpyderMike said...
I got rid of the front and back lights. Also pulled the interior light bulbs, I was working on the car and left the door open. Almost killed my Odyssey. They really don't work as well as a good led flashlight.

ok today I stole Kevin's idea and mounted the switch in my Renncover

Love ir...simple and elegant solution

Since you say you are a newcomer like me, here are the exact instructions for putting in a switch
(please dont be insulted by the simplicity)

I used an on off type switch from amazon

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G821G6A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s05?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I first inserted the switch into my red cover and locked it in

then I cut the black wire leading to the trunk light (there should be a brown and a black)

Inserted the switch into the black line - I soldered and shrink wrapped each solder

viola

Trunk light question

Ooooooohhhhh, squirrel!!!(inside joke)

Must do this to our's too. Will tap into the frunk light power to run these that will be tucked up and out of sight, but will provide additional light when needed.

Cool! I just ordered some similar LED strips for my interior footwells for when I drop something on the floor in the dark. What were we talking about?

Oh yes - the switch. While I was cleaning up that job today I got distracted by my cover and redid the fasteners. I will post this project on my thread

Yeah, when you drop something on the floor, lets go with that... ;)

Are they purple and dimmable...? Did you also get a Marvin Gaye or Barry White CD at the same time?

That really made me laugh/ great memories - anyway, my car is accented in red not purple :)

Marvin Gaye cassette for my Blau...but I do like Barry also

I would love like to see a creative solution for a LED or light above the ignition switch and not the illuminated key solution.

That actually would be pretty simple. An LED could be mounted to the plastic surrounding the steering column, just ahead of the signal lever. Theres a nice flat spot on the lower half that seems to be pointing in the direction of the ignition switch. There's access to power behind the dash right there and it could be run from the door switch which is located nearby. It could be wired to come on with the door open or if you wanted to get all fancy, latch it on when the door opens and off with the ignition switch turning on.

I know about your red interior bits (the woman I was seeing is an interior designer and freaked out a little when I told her what you were doing with that vintage fabric), but was just going from my memories of the '70s...

nice idea!

Canada Kev 10-28-2017 07:53 PM

'Twas Rick's idea, I just thought of a way to make it work.

RSBob 10-28-2017 08:35 PM

Kevin, excellent suggestion. I have an extra LED I will wire in pointing to the switch. Your solution is far safer than drilling a hole above the ignition. I appreciate you giving me the credit, but the pure genius is crafting the solution.

If you told her it was '65 vintage Fortuny I bet she did freak! I can't imagine a better use for it.

Yep, told her it was Fortuny from the '60s. She asked if it was pillows you were using and went a little bit pale when I said you had a few yards. It was rather funny, but I like to shock people - kinda odd that way...

I think there should be a thread started with the title.....
"Flight of the Bumble Bee"

Could be on all the side details that get started when we all go in to fix one item only to get derailed onto a totally different item. lol.

Oh yeah, back to the LED interior lights. Actually "JoeBob" is the one who turned me into the LED strip lights for the interior footwells and the engine bay linked to an Independant switch. The idea recently resurfaced when including those for the frunk area too. Bright light n low power consumption = win win for our cars. Especially if one looks into the lighter smaller battery.

Cheers and happy Sunday
