76 911 2.7 targa shocks

Hi,

It seems that my car came with KONI front and rear shocks. there is still some red paint left and it says KONI on them, dah.

I don't know how old are these, when i push on the car from the top there is no bounce but there is also not a lot of movement happening.

When we pushed the car from the tow truck into my garage lift i could see leaks from both front shocks. A LOT.

How can i tell if these are gone?
I have also talked to the owner and he doesn't remember when was the last time these were changed.
My biggest concern is that the tires have marks from the fender due to cornering even though the car is really high. See pic.
I suspect weak shocks.

The sway bar bushings were gone too but I replaced those already.

Also, should i go with KONI again?
Street driving is what i'm looking for, nothing crazy.

They are gone and need to be replaced. Koni or Bilstein, its just a matter of opinion for street use.

While in there

May want to put in new ball joints
as a minimum you need the new bolts that hold the strut to the ball joint
start immediately to put some pb blaster on the nut, when taking out the bolt relieve the pressure on it by lifting the swing arm a bit. They are usually seized. I also used wax to help get the bolts out, heat up the area and apply wax to it.
see attached for items you may need the strut is showing a 75

One of the attractions of Koni shocks is that they can be rebuilt. Don't know if you want to do that or just replace them. Looks like the kit for two shocks goes for $40 on Ebay.

If the shocks are leaking, yea, time for a rebuild or replacement. The advantage of Konis is they can be adjusted. And if you are handy, can be rebuilt. Some will advocate custom Belsteins, but that is another story. Do a search and you will see.

On the front, you should consider new rubber bushings, tierod ends, and ball joints. That is a relatively old car, and without records of the last major maintenance, it may be a time for a complete refresh of the suspension.

As far as the rear rubbing, you may want to start a thread on that issue. Include tire and wheel size and make, ride height, and alignment specs if you have them.
