It's that time of year again...
 

Winter is quickly approaching and for many of us that are fortunate(?) enough to live in states with snow it is time to put the car away for the winter. I have stored my car in the past but I am always looking for ideas and just simple refreshers. This year I will actually try to keep the list I write up (I seem to loose it every summer). I simply store my car in my garage. In the past I have done some elaborate things that actually required a list when preping it for storage. This year I think I will just disconnect one of the battery leads, slightly overinflate the tires (I'm not planning to put the car on blocks), and put steel wool in the exhast pipe. The oil was just changed about 200 miles ago. I plan to change it in the spring when I take it out of storage again. I will top off the gas tank. I'll also throw a cover over it. Aside from that though, what else should I do/need to do? I do not plan to start the car for about 5 months. Any feedback is appreciated.

Go to wallgreens or target, etc.. and buy those packages that you can put inside the car that combats any mold issues that might occur. I would also fire it up at least once a month.

Shoot I went to drive mine this morning and found the battery dead!!!

Is topping off the fuel tank the way to go for winter storage or is this just something you do when putting the car away, also, how do you feel about Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer as an addition to the winter fuel?
I try to start the car once a week and get it up to operating temperature, even take it out if the roads are dry and there is not alot of salt. Sometimes this is not possible, so it averages out to about twice a month.
I cant use the car cover afterward with out washing the car first, so I do not cover the car if its too cold outside to wash it, I can always detail the car when it gets warm.

My suggestion would be to buy an old set of cookie cutter wheels and put snow tires on them! Just like Bill Krause. That way you can drive it all year long and you don't have to worry about winterizing it. Just rinse the salt off.

But what do I know, I live in California.
