Wheel refinishing Q:Wheel Enhancement vs Harvey weidman
One of the local shops messed up my rear C2 Turbo wheels and the refinish product by " Transwheel in IN" was hopeless. The wheels have dust specs in'em,aren't as smooth as the factory and to top it off the -uckers couldn't even match the paint
![]() So having gone thru one refinsihing shop,my question to you all is, 1)- Is it possible to expect the shop to be able to duplicate the factory finish in color & texture ? Would it match the other original factory wheels ? 2)-I want the wheels to look just like the factory,so is it even worth getting mine refinished or just wait for an all original wheels to pop up somewhere ? Help greatly appreciated and this board rocks. Thanks |

You probably can't go wrong either way.
My experience is with Harvey. Back to original specs is his specialty. He does it for Porsche dealers regularly.

wheel Collision in Bath PA brought the Sport Classic II's bak to factory spec from my 97 C2s, they did an excellent job and they're closer to you. http://www.wheelcollision.com/

Weidman Wheels did all 4 of the 17" Cup wheels from my C2 after "Good Stuff Auto" in Santa Rosa, CA absolutely scratched and gouged the hell out of them while attempting to put new tires on. they("Good Stuff Auto") had painting over their destuction in an attempt to hide it from me. this made even a bigger mess. Weidman's did a superb job in restoring and refinishing the wheels. i would not hesitate to use him again.

I've used Wheel Enhancement, Weidmans, and Al Reed.
For "back to original", Harvey was the best....but I love Al Reed for polished and anodized for "street" use, and he is better priced..... I no longer use Wheel Enhancement due to "attitude" from their shop. Eric

I had Weidman's do a set of 15x7&8 Fuchs for me after I saw a set of RSR wheels he did for a restoration. He did a fantastic job; they're indistinguishablle from new.

Weidman is the best. I urge you to call and talk to both companies you are looking at and ask them questions about past jobs.. Harvey has a very impressive history.

I had my 7s and 9s done by Weidmans recently.
They came out perfect. I think it was $135 each for the 7s and $155 each for the 9s to refinish to the factory finish. I had some Fuchs done by Robert Woods about 10 year ago. Wiedman's job was definately a bit better than Woods. The finishes were more uniform, and didn't have the "fuzziness" or excess opaqueness that a lot of anodizers get. Weidman's are crisp like Fuchs should be. Also, Woods' details weren't as good. For example, on a Fuchs, the area where the lug nuts make contact with the wheel should not be painted. Most paint in there anyways. Weidman's does not. When these cars were new, Weidmans was the shop where wheels that were damaged in transit from the factory to the US would be sent by Porsche for refinishing. Harvey was also a pleasure to deal with. He did the wheels in the time frame he promised (earlier, actually). They were nicely packaged and shipped so no damage would occur. He kept me advised during the whole process. I'd definately recommend him. He is in Oroville, CA. |

Al Reed does very nice work that is ~90% as good as Harvey W., (still beautiful), if you didn't know the difference you could think that a Reed wheel was perfect. And some are pretty close, depending on the finish chosen.
Harvey's work is unmatched, IMO, especially if any anodising is involved. Brian (SoCal911SC) describes the difference exactly. Robert Wood, (Wheel Enhancement), I wouldn't even bother with, I don't think that they even do their own wheels. (They send them out). When the sad day comes that Harvey retires, the Porsche world will be S.O.L. ![]()
