Safety warning from the queen

I was working on a ground short in the engine compartment of my 912. My fuel pump is grounded on a bolt that has a nut in the wheel well. The hood is attached hot rod style with a bungee type cord. With my left arm holding a screwdriver on a screw inside the compartment, I was tightening the bolt under the passenger wheel well. Well, I bet you can guess what happened next.

The hood came down hard across my forarm and there was enough flex in the hood that it latched! No kidding. My left arm was squished and trapped. I couldn't reach my phone and was working alone.

After around 20 long minutes someone happened by and pulled the hood release for me. The hood has a little crease near the hinge that I will need to get repaired, my arm has a huge bruise and cut where I tried to pull it out, and my confidence has taken a beating.

I know some of you are laughing because this sounds so clutzy and I don't blame you. But wanted to warn other amateurs like me to be careful.

We will never speak of this mortifying moment again.

Yikes and glad you got away relatively unscathed. I would not let this effect your confidence though. It seems more like a freak accident then one of carelessness or sloppy work method.

Sorry to hear about the accident, but it sounds like you escaped serious injury - be thankful.

Wow. Glad it worked out for you. If it was me, I would have been in the garage late at night, alone....

So, time to ditch the latch for those RSR rubber tiedowns.

Sometimes, no matter how careful your are, accidents happen. I work on my car in my garage alone, too. I like to leave the door open, when alone with the car on jack stands, and cell phone with in reach.

I am grateful that I had the garage door open(usually I dont). I am really surprised the lid latched with my whole arm in there! Thanks for the well wishes and support. I cussed a blue streak when I realized I was trapped. Phone was about 3 feet away. Live and learn.

Queen,

Pretty scary stuff, for the time being, tape something over the latch so at worst you get the pain of the lid hitting you.

wow, glad you are ok.

reminds me of the lady down the street that was "baby sitting" someones corvette. she got in it to move it and the battery was partially dead so it LOCKED her in the car. she was in there for over an hour I believe.
I saw her one day and asked if she was having a corvette party at her house. she said no, they were all there trying to get her out.

Glad you're ok!
Reminds me of the time I was under an old mustang when it fell off the jack and pinned me for hours until I finally dug myself out. Luckily I was on dirt. I have lived another 40 years and learned from each mistake. Good luck in the future!
912 looks nice.

The funny part will come later. But chit can happen anytime, you just never know when.

Glad you are OK and someone was near that could help. I have always been a fan of keeping a phone nearby too, but haven't always kept it close enough.

good laughs later

About two years ago I had my wifes car jacked up with a jack under each side behind the front wheel looking for a trans leak.Car was running and my two foot long ponytail got caught in the wheel of the creeper. One jack was older and after a few minutes started to bleed down bringing the hot cat close to my forehead.I was very lucky as there was a single edge razor blade within reach and I whacked the tail off and escaped. So in the last two years no one recognizes me with short hair. You never know.Fred

ouch! Sorry that happened.

I learned a lesson the hard way this summer. Long story short, outside A/C compressor on the house quit. I got some tools and told my son to come outside with me to help. While we were around the corner of the house working my daughter left to go to somewhere not realizing we were outside and locked us out.

There we were locked out with no key and no phone. I had left my phone on the kitchen counter. Luckily I realized I was wearing my Bluetooth headset around my neck. If I pressed my face up against the side glass at the front door I was just enough in range of my phone that I could use the voice activation to call my daughter.

Now I wear my headset when I’m working alone in the garage and put the phone on the a nearby shelf.

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.
