Carrera 3.2 Targa top latches..........

Could someone with Carrera 3.2 Targa kindly post some pictures of the roller type latches? I was told that there are two types of manual latches used in Targa tops for Carrera 3.2.
a). Hook type.
b). Roller type.

I have a '78 SC Targa with the hook type latches that are similar to early Carrera 3.2 but have not seen a manual roller type. I like to convert the cabriolet locking motors (roller type) of the '89 cab to manual roller type latches. What are the part numbers for these manual roller type latches? Thanks.

Tony

Tony, I'd check with Dan Petchel over in jersey to see if he knows the combinations of what will work for you. You might need the whole header on the roof.

Below are photos of the handle, the latching mechanism, and the receiver bracket. Let me know if this is not what you need.

Edit: I’m trying to understand your intent. You want to convert your cabrio power top to a manual top? If yes:

Hi Boyt, I’ve done the power-to-manual cabrio latch conversion. The photos above show the correct “receiver” and “latch” side parts. The receiver side for the manual top is shaped slightly differently than the same part for the electrical top. You need both the receiver and the latch to make the conversion. I would recommend it, life is much better with the simple manual top!

I have an extra pair of receiver side latches that I paid $180 for, if you’re interested.

The complete parts list for the conversion:

911.561.729.03 latch handle/key, only one is needed
911.565.280.61.70 /Left header panel bezel for latch handle
911.565.279.61.70 /Right header panel bezel for latch handle
911.565.031.63 /Left roller latch mechanism
911.565.032.63 /R roller latch mechanism
911.561.729.03.03C /L latch catch/receiver
911.561.730.03.03C /R latch catch/receiver

The part number that flatpac6 gives for the roller latches also work. They’re a black colored version that only came on the 964 targa, otherwise they’re identical to the 911 part number. There is a black 964 version of the receiver sides too. The 964 parts are more rare than the silver/grey 911 parts.

Last, there are a number of different versions of the latch key/handle. I only lieted the p/n for the last revision of it.

Bruce, John, Nickd, etc all,

Thanks for the information, pictures, suggestions, and advises you have given me. From the information I have how, it seems I have two (2) good options to choose from and make a decision.

Option A:
Install the late Carrera 3.2 roller latches, new receivers or strikers, handles, etc.

Question: Would the current receivers or strikers work with the manual roller latches?

Option B:
Install the 964 manual roller latches, plus handles, etc.

Question: Would the 964 roller latches work with the existing receivers/strikers?

What would do if you were in my shoes? Or PM me. Anyone who has a 964 roller latches please chime in. Pictures would be much appreciated. Comments, suggestions, or recommendations are highly appreciated. At this point I am open for suggestions. BTW, Dan Petchel of CarsIncNJ has been giving me information via email. Thanks to all.

Tony

Hi Tony,
The 964 targa latch and receiver are identical to the late 911 parts, they’re just a different color. So pick whichever of them that you find. I think that some of the pieces are no longer available new.

Update........

Bought a replacement motor from Kevin (CA). And at the same time found a pair of NOS 964 roller latches from Steve (Ohio). Will see if the 964 latches work with the existing receivers. Thanks to all.
