Post 930 mods

It seems that the standard 1st modifications to a 930 are a k27-7200, GSL or B&B exhaust system, and a larger intercooler. Has anyone done these mods, and what problems and or issues did you have, and was the effort worth the result? Thanks Pat

They are worth it. With just headers, muffler, and a k27 you'll be looking at 340 hp. With a larger intercooler, 1 bar spring, and powerflow intake on top of that, count on 380, possibly more. I have just done the first part, that is exhaust and turbo, and I'd say the power increase is worth it. Although it wasn't really enough for me, so I'm going for something a little more extreme.

The only issues that I have with these mods is the cost!! I am planning a simmilar SS header and exhaust switch for next year. But that damn US dollar is killing our Canadian Peso. Ouch!!

If you want info on turbo's and turbo upgrading check with Michael or Stephen at Imagine Auto, http://www.imagineauto.com/, they really know their stuff when it comes to turbos and are extremely helpful. They are daily regulars on the Rennlist, www.rennlist.com, so you could post this question there too.

Thanks for the replys everyone, this validates the mods, but what are the "gotchas" when installing the headers, clearence issues access problems to the fasteners, problems with moving the oil lines, any fuel setting changes? what do you do with the air line to the cat? I'm just would like to know what to expect and others experiences before I start. thanks Pat

Go to www.911turbo.com and read about many people who have done these mods. Also, Rennlist has a great board on 911 turbos and their mods. I have an 88 930 cab that dyno'd 300 hp (255 at the wheels) and was stock except for no cat and a Borla muffler. I added B&B headers, K27, Andial intercooler and 1 bar spring. The car then dyno'd at 385 hp (323 at the wheels). However, it's not just about horsepower numbers. The headers allow the turbo to start coming on about 800 rpm's sooner. So, you not only get more power, you get that power much sooner. Headers cost about $2,000, k27 $1,000, intercooler $1,500 and boost spring $50. Plus labor of about 20 hrs. After this is done you can look at 3.4 P&C with SC cams. That should get you to 450 hp.
