I Need Paint Repair/Bodywork & I'm a Bit Terrified. SD/SoCal Recommendations Needed

Hi there.

I've got to get my right rear fender (an unfortunate flare vs. concrete overhang incident...) and just under my windshield repaired, and I'm a bit terrified about the paint matching process. My paint was non-standard, so they can't just use a paint code to match it. The good news...I still have the original cans of paint used on the car 10 years ago.

I know nothing about such things...other than I should probably get the car as prepped as I can prior to bringing it to them.

Can anyone recommend a San Diego (or SoCal) paint shop that knows these cars and will take good care of the job?

Thanks!

You might want to try Loren at 911 Design. I've seen a handful of cars they have repaired and the work is VERY good.

Try George at GA Coachworks near sports arena in SD, I just had them plug holes and repaint my decklid. Came out perfect and very reasonable price

You saw it after. I'd done a basic repair and patch job to get it through Rennsport, but it needs to be professionally done.

2nd for John Esposito, probably one of the best in the U.S.; pay him a visit and you'll understand why.

Take recommendations as a sort or interview process. Everybody has an idea of what quality is no matter how famous the supposed shop is. Honestly usually the forum gods are the ones I am most disappointed in.

Use the forums as a guide to what a proper repair is. The visit the shop and see their work. Also color matching is different then a full spray job. There is no break off so you have a expensive repair there depending on what your feeling of tape lines and hard blends is. Otherwise you are painting the back half of the tub removing everything trim wise.

Hot Rods and Hobbies in Escondido and right across the street is Best In Show. Hot Rod shops know what a straight panel is as usually European type repair shops aren't as detailed oriented or having to deliver as dead on panels as HR shops are.

Try fellow pelican shop kevin930t. Was at his shop today. It's amazing shop and his 930 is a work of art. The paint is flawless. Plenty of other classics with beautiful paint jobs. He specializes in restoration. Does very good quality work. PM him and ask him to send pics of his work. Very humble guy.

I had a good experience with a difficult repair at this place behind the sports arena.
They were able to perfectly match my 40 year old single stage paint with a 2 stage repair.
Worth getting an estimate.

This is exactly where I chose to have the work done. The car goes in today. I feel very confident after seeing their spectacular work.

Sound advice and I couldn’t agree more about the forum “gods”. Look at how many people proclaimed best in the state, country, world in this thread about Esposito
