74 911S first start in 6 years

Hello all,
I recently purchased my first Porsche after owning mostly air cooled VWs and a few American cars. The 911 was stored in the woman's garage and was left for 6 years with no starting. After I took delivery I drained the bad gas that was in the tank, changed the plugs, oil change, new fuel filter, and fresh battery. Got in and turned the key and the engine cranked, but no spark. after searching the forums and troubleshooting I determined my CDI box had gone bad. I had a MSD 6AL sitting around so I installed that along with a MSD coil, new distro cap, rotor, and points. Got in to start the car and it acted like it was going to turn over when a huge backfire was sent through the intake. I went back to the engine compartment to investigate and found that the number 5 injector and sleeve had been ejected from the intake. I have ordered new o rings and sleeves for the injectors to solve what I suspect is a vacuum leak. Could this be the cause of the backfire? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

You have some work ahead of you. Fuel distributor could be seized, flooding the engine. Does the air box has a pop-off valve? You may have blown the box. Too many things to list, add some photos of it.

new distro cap? disconected wires for plug change... => wires reset the right way?! ignition timing OK?

injector stuck shut? it sat for 6 years... do a pressure test into a bottle or better at a shop to test them

Hey guys,
First of all thank you for the reply’s. I got the new injector o rings installed and checked the plug wires again. I noticed the plugs were in the incorrect position. Fixed that and it fired right up. I made my own RS style carpet kit and installed that this weekend as well.

Welcome to the club! Got my midyear narrow body from AZ as well. Similar story. AZ cars are the best....SO DRY. That color is great btw, looks like it needs a detail to bring out the original luster. Bahia Yellow i think it's called?

BTW save everything. Don't throw away that CDI box. It may have been fine and they are super pricey.

That's a sweet looking machine!

Assuming you have a CIS engine in it, I'd start here:
