Is there a spec for brake pedal travel?
Is there a spec for brake pedal travel?
I just finished putting new calipers and sort lines (and one hard line) on the front of my SC, and replacing the brake fluid. My right front caliper was sticking and I hate caliper rebuilding so I just put a new pair in, and the fluid was a few years old so time to flush that. Bleeding the fluid has been more difficult than in my other cars; when I took the left front apart I forgot to block the pedal before breaking the system open, so I lost a fair amount of fluid there (almost none from the right front) and that corner has required a lot more bleeding. I am embarrassed to admit it has been enough weeks since I've driven the car that I can't remember how firm the pedal should be I would expect it to be slightly softer now, ceteris paribus, since the non-sticking caliper is moving more fluid. Right now it feels softer than I remember before, though subjectively about the same as my Saab's pedal. The pedal bottoms out at about the point where heel-toe throttle blipping is effortless, which I think is lower than I remember. I think it should be firmer, but am not sure I have a solid basis for that. But if there's a spec for pedal travel for a correctly bled system, I figure that would be a good reference check. All impressions based on pedal application with the car running, but on jack stands and so not driving. (I'm doing other stuff, too.) bleeding was two-person with a gravity bleed of the fronts after, though I did not get an air out when I did that. I did not pinch off the overflow hose from the MC, but I also never let it get that high.
