Removing sound deadening
 

When looking for possible solutions for getting rid of old sound deadening in my Porsche 911 from 1979 I have found several solutions heating up and dry ice. The best solution probably depends on the age of the car. Can anybody tell me which solution is the best for a 1979 Porsche.

Looks like it's cracked and chipping so I'd use a putty knife and get up as much as you can then go to heat if necessary.

On my 82 it was cracked and chipping like your photo. I used a petty knife and it pryed out in big chunks. There will be some residue to clean up for which I used a little citrus strip.

Yup. Same on my 82. Much came up with just a putty knife. Used a heat gun for some areas and that helped it come up in big chunks.

Get the cheap heat gun at Harbor Freight and it should come off like butter with a putty knife.

New sound deadening material
 

Thank you all for very informative answers, it's appreciated. I also need information about what you did to renew the old sound deadening material. All information about brand name or even item numbers will be very much aprreciated. Again thank you for your help.

I didn't replace it with much. A lot of opinions here on products like dynomat so many threads to review.

But I would like it to look original, and Dynamat is probably not the original material?

Dry ice. Period. Takes 15 seconds to remove all deadening

Thank you Tremelune for the very informative article, my problem is that I am more interested in the origianl look, and not the very best sound deadening effect. So, if anybody could send information about the original material Porsche used for 911 in 1979, I would appreciate it very much. But again, thank you for replaying.
