Help with speed sensor removal
 

I’m trying to get the speed sensor out of my 84 with a 915 transmission. I’ve read it gets pryed out with a pick but I can’t seem to get it. I’ve tried to pull the tabs with pliers too but they just broke off pieces.

Can anyone offer some ideas to help??

Finish busting it and get it out of there.

Really, this isn’t something I can remove without damaging it? I’d hate to have to run a new wire through the car again. If I do break it do I get to salvage the wire or does the new sensor come with a factory fitted wire?

No wire through the car, it unplugs under the cover for the shift coupler between the back seats. You can try a pair of pliers and wiggle it but my brother and I destroyed one with the transmission on a stand. Some come easy... some... not so much.

OK Cab, thanks for chiming in. I'm pulling some stuff off of the top side right now. Once that's done I'll dig into it again. In the meantime maybe I'll get some other advice.

You could try spraying some penetrating oil and using thin screw driver to get it away from the trans casing a bit but if it's not wiggling in the transmission housing I'm guessing you might be in for some grief.
