Will a pre-'74 dash fit an '84 Carrera with only defrost vents?

Another forum member and I are backdating an '84 Carrera as a lightweight '68 R tribute. The car has no stereo, no air conditioning, and the only active air vents are the front windshield defrosters. Given that we don't need a central dash air vent, an early pre-'74 dash is an attractive option. Does anyone know if an early pre-'74 dash will fit an '84 Carrera if you're only worried about the defrost vents? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it should.

For my car, when I had my dash recovered, I had them fill the center vent hole. So now I don't have a center vent hole or a center speaker cover like earlier dashpads would have.
