Help needed...CSV bench test question

1982 SC. Doing an inspect/repair/replace on all parts of my CIS due to a no start condition. Discovered that my air box was cracked, POV was loose, and injectors and injector sleeves were old and crappy. Am now in the phase of bench testing all of the devices. Bought a 12V DC power source (nice and handy to have) and tested the AAR first. Worked like a charm and closed all the way after about 5 minutes. Moved on the the CSV next. Engine is out of the car, and since I don't have a convenient way to supply pressurized fluid to the valve I figured I'd just try and see what happens when the valve gets 12V. I can hear a distinct click inside the valve when 12V is applied. I can also blow through the valve when 12V is applied (hard to do but I can hear and feel air escape), and cannot blow though it when 12V is disconnected.
My question is whether or not you guys think this is sufficient to verify that the valve is operational? I know I can't properly verify spray pattern this way. I also realize that I need to test the TTS (next on the list).
Oh, one other observation...the valve body heats up very quickly when I was turning power on and off to the valve. I never had it on continuously for more than maybe 10 seconds, but it gets pretty warm/hot to the touch. Anyone else experienced this? Thanks.

If it clicks and you can blow through it, most likely it's good. It will get warm as there's a wire coil that that creates a magnetic field to operate the soloniod.

they rarely go bad. in fact not sure if I have heard of a bad one.

you might spray some carb cleaner thru it while open just to clean it.

I did exactly the same thing and it worked;)
