Wires between the brake and shift coupler?

What are these various wires? When I pulled up carpet they were not attached to anything.

My assumption is that the brown/White single wire is part of the circuit for the parking brake, brake wear, oil pressure lights. I have been having an issue where all three of those come on sometimes when setting the parking brake. I’m guessing there is a short there.

Additionally, I was pulling on the handle and jiggling wires when I pulled too hard on the handle and heard something snap. It doesn’t feel like there is anymore tension on the parking brake handle now. What did I break? lol

The connectors would be for heater controls.
You might have snapped one of the two e-brake cables. If one breaks, you lose tension in the other also.

How difficult is it to replace the ebrake cables?

I wouldn't say it's difficult. Helps to have a Bentley manual so you know how to adjust them properly. I would of course replace both cables at the same time.

I just ordered the E-brake cables for a 1987. It is 1 cable that twists around the lever. I think there's 2 styles - 1 for manual heat and 1 for auto heat. The one for manual heat is PEL-TMP-9300A.
