BTW there are 2 different universal joints in those pictures of post 18.
One looks to be a 93034702500 and the other a 93034702502.

It would be interesting to see both type side by side in order to determine if they are the same length in the first place. The 02500 may be on the shaft as far as its design will permit.

(and I agree the bearing is bad)

Part # 17 (on an '87 but the diagram looks exactly like yours above) is: 901 347 210 03 steering shaft

Do you have the PET Katalog? Looks like the SC is not avail, but the 84-86 is.
