Question Help convert a lost soul

Here is the story. My father has an Acura Integra he uses as a DD that is just about spent at 240,000 miles. He is looking between a couple different cars new Acura RSX-S, new BMW 330i coupe, used Porsche C2 coupe/targa, or used Porsche 911 88-89 coupe/targa.

Utility is not a big factor since my parents will go to a sports car/family car/truck setup. The family car is my mothers DD, a 2000 BMW 325i sedan. Truck will be a Chevy Silverado with the new inline-6 currently in the Trailblazer, waiting for its release into the trucks.

"That is about the same price as a new RSX Type-S. Hmmmmm! Pls point me to a good
Website that documents the Porsche 911 family genealogy. Thanks...."

He has always wanted a 911 from way back and now that they are rid of the money sucking kid (me) it is time to have fun again. He used to be very into sports cars back in the day with an MG-A, MG-B, Jaguar 12cyl 'vert (Type-S?), '65 Mustang coupe, and a red '70 Corvette 350/350 'vert (my mom loved that car). I grew up listening to how him and his buddies would race thier cars at SCCA events and how well the 912/911s did. Almost bought a 911 over the Corvette, but not quite.

I think the main decision is between the RSX-S and the C2.

Any information/stories/personal testimony would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Thumbs up

Adrian, your dad is primed. Get him out to a PCA event. He knows sports cars enough to talk it up with the owners & racers. You know how enthusiasm can be contagious? Do it quickly before he does something rash.

I recall seeing a good history-of-Porsche site. If I can find it again I'll post it here for you.

tell him that that acure rsx looks like a dodge neon. it may perform well, but to me it is not a sportscar.

i can't imagine that car instilling much enthusiasm in a sportscar lover.

I loved my Integra GS-R... until I bought my first 911. There is no comparison (although the Acura sure was a LOW maint. car).
When it was time for the Integra to go I would have loved to buy another 911, but that wasn't practical. I looked at the New RSX-s, but they just couldn't give me the ride qualities I wanted. I ended up buying an Audi... not a Porsche but at least it's German.

Go drive both. Then decide.
