Backdating from autoheat

Guys I'm sure it's been done but I can find a step by step write up.

I have a 3.2 1984 Carrera with autoheat. I turn the knob it does nothing. I'm a simple person, just want to backdate to the cables and levers? Has anyone done this?

Thanks!

yes its been done,

the autoheat is not that hard to work on.

first I would check fuses and test the fans. if the fans don't work, does not matter what you put in there.

just a quick note on autoheat.
there is a small switch in there that goes bad. most of the time I hear it fails with the fans on even with the heat off. this SW provides power for all fan spds. it does not sw on until the motor rotates a cam in there that closes the heater flaps. takes a few seconds.
there is also a hi spd relay under the passengers floor board.

auto heat- foot well blowers part deux.

I was thinking of backdating mine with the left side heater duct Pelican offers (Part #: 930-106-321-01-V2-PH) along with modifying the heater relay so the footwell blowers would work. Decided to repair the heater instead. The blower relay in the engine compartment was fried on mine and the blower motor was also toast (tried to get it rebuilt but the bushings were gone and wore out the armature). Got a replacement motor from our host and a used relay from a forum member. System works as it should now.

Does it make noise when you turn full on and off?

There is a small rod in there that attaches the servo to the lever that pulls the cables to the heater boxes, it can sometimes pop off. Mine did that twice.

Check that first, before you start spending money. It is a ball and socket type connection, just pop it back on. Easy fix and free, if it is your issue.

And to add to this, make sure the cables move freely and are not frozen stuck, or the rod will keep popping off or the plastic rod ends will break.

I swapped mine to manual levers. Easier than I thought it would be. I also installed the 930 left air duct at the engine while removing the huge blower. My interior footwell blowers don't work, but I will probably remove those soon as the heat now is more than adequate.
