H1 Restoration Question--Again!
I've read and reread the posts on this but can't confirm what type of finish is on the H1 headlight buckets. The refinishing place I took mine to asked if it was chrome or silver. After examining my parts he said it doesnt look like chrome (they've been bead blasted already to remove rust and prepare for replating) . He said the chrome gives a yellowish light and the silver a whiter light. Does it really even matter? I don't know--the cost is about the same. Anyone have experience with this type of metal plating?

Bird. It's the word...

Jon, it was neither. The process involved a vacuum technique which layed a "film" over the metal bucket. I don't think it can be truly replicated, however if I had to hedge a bet... I'd go with silver.

Sam one of the members supposedly has a bunch of parts, and found a guy that can do the original plating technique...I think he is amassing parts because the guy will only do a bulk job...
He said he would notfy us so we can add our parts to help make the minimum number of pieces the guys wants... MJ |

That was me in the link referenced by ruf-porsche. My H-4's are chromed now and the headlights are brighter. Not blindingly bright but definitely improved and not at all yellow.

Well-I took all the screws in yesterday to get them refinished too. I'm going with the chrome refinish. He said 2-4 weeks. damm. I'll post some pics when I get everything back together.
