Distibutor questions
Hi as was sugested to me in my previous post I am wanting to remove my distributor and clean it, the only question is how do I get at the nut that holds it down, a socket will not fit and the spaner hits the rear engine cross member. As well on the 1970 911s I don't have the vaccum attachment is this normal?

I have a 2.2S and have no problem getting an open end wrench on the nut. Sears carries a distributor wrench that will fit it pretty well, especially useful for the marrelli distributor nuts.

Oh yea, I hope you ralize to turn your engine to #1 TDC before you remove your distributor? If not there will be hell to pay when trying to reinstall it!
Good luck! BK |
Get a shorter wrench (stubby), or get a cheap combination wrench and cut the other end off to make it shorter or use a crowsfoot wrench on an extension driven by a ratchet or small breaker bar. Ask Early_S_Man about the vacuum hose or do a topic search on this board.

mechanics usually have a few custom made tools like a wrench that's been heated with a torch and bent to fit whatever it's needed for. there's always some spot that no normal tool will reach.

13mm Crows foot on the end of a socket extension is what I use.
