braided carbon fiber wheels

Porsche is the world's first vehicle manufacturer to offer lightweight wheels with braided carbon fiber. They are available now as an option for the Porsche 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series.

My Belle Tire guy said he had to turn away a guy who wanted tires swapped on his GT350R, as they're ~$4,000 each to replace if they screwed up. Not worth the risk.

I bet an OEM Porsche carbon wheel will cost a little more than an OEM Ford carbon wheel.

I'll be surprised if these wheels EVER see a tire change in the owner's lifetime.
Most owners who can afford this option on a Turbo S Exclusive will NEVER drive the car to the point that new tires are needed.
This would be one of those (buy the tires and rims, then store them as-is for future appreciation)

If anyone buys one DO NOT let my girlfriend park the car. She kinda drives into the curb on an angle then when there is sufficient scraping noise she straightens it out and parks.

Very nice...

But I had no idea the factory alloys were so heavy. Well, I guess heavy probably isn't exactly the correct word, but you get my meaning... Quote from the link: "The innovative, all-carbon-fiber wheels weigh around 8.5 kg less than standard alloy wheels, which is a weight reduction of 20%."

Assuming that number is for all four wheels combined, that works out to about 19 lbs lighter with the standard wheels weighing in at almost 95 pounds.

I didn't realize that increasing wheel diameter made that much difference. My 17" Zuffenhaus wheels combined weigh in at about 65 lbs.

And if you wait a year they will be even lighter, stronger, and cheaper.
