Losing the air-box on a Mech Inj'n 2.7

OK, so the factory put it there for good reason (sound muffling and air-flow) but I would like to lose the air-box on my '74 European 2.7 Carrera - that's the one with the identical engine to the '73 cCarrera RS, with mechnical injection and 210bhp.

As the base for the air-box is part of the injection stacks, is there an off-the-shelf filter set-up (K&N?) which will allow me to ditch the air-box and listen to the motor when it hits six grand plus?

The answer is yes. There is a K&N setup. Vendors other than Pelican Stock it and Pelican might have it but not on the website.

I think it is absurdly expensive for what it is, but basically you get a plate for the K&N to sit on plus a plate to go on top, plus a rain shield. Looks way cooler than the MFI filter setup.

If you do this, wither put your MFI setup away for safe keeping or sell it to someone who needs it - it appears good ones are always in demand.

Hmmm, just had a rethink. I know they exist for the Weber triple carbs and have always assumed they fit MFI...

Cool

If the base of the aircleaner is part of the stacks, you may have to fabricate a plate to hold the aircleaner filter elements. If you injection is like the '72's and later.

Good luck,

Yes, the base is moulded into the stacks, so it looks like I'll be into some fabrication. Matt Holcomb from Oz mailed me with details of a prototype set-up being made out there, so it looks like help is on its way! Thaks guys

Anyone else with any info?

Hey Keith,

Please let me know what you find out. I'd be very interested in hearing what kind of setup you come up with since I've been pondering doing this myself. My email is bfranklin@metlife.com.

Thanks!

Brad
