Still Using Greyhound Shipping?
I've used Greyhound to ship large items before, but noticed recently in their small-print:
"Auto parts must be tendered with OEM packaging. If manufacturing packaging does not exist Carrier will accept at the shipper’s risk or at no declared value." So are most folks just chancing it and hoping stuff doesn't go missing or get damaged? I guess that works for the cheaper items, but what about more valuable bits - can you get 3rd party shipping insurance perhaps? |

I had a pair of seats sent across country wo insurance and everything turned out OK. Pack your patience because the tracking info is marginal at best.

I'm not asking if the package ever arrived. I'm wondering if everyone is aware that none of these parts are insured and if there is maybe a 3rd party that will insure more expensive items?

Their "insurance" has always been worthless, so it's not like this policy really changes anything. I've shipped tons of large parts through Greyhound over the years. I've had 2 packages damaged, none lost. They were of no help at all on the damaged packages, I tried and ended up eating the cost in the end.

I had a hood that I purchased damaged by GH. It was obvious that the package was not treated well during its journey. Plus the "customer service" at pick-up was a nightmare. Overall, not a good experience.
The lack of OEM packaging prevented me from claiming insurance. Personally, I would not use them again unless it was the only option and the packaging was gorilla proof.

If not GH then who? Are their good options other than GH for those large items like a hood. Rob

Is Fastenal an option? I know they are a license carrier and provide shipping services.
Just never looked into as an option. I have used GH in the past and no issues. If under a number of pounds I can ship from 18 miles away, if over a number I need to go 40. USPS is 3 miles and am surprised what I can drop off. Last item was 51x15x13 inch box and weighs 37 pounds. Pricey but from NY to Ca. 85 bucks. Last thing to GH was a 901 tranny weighing 96 pounds and was around 90 bucks to Indiana. Terry

Still Using Greyhound Shipping?
Quote:
![]() ![]() In fact, this thread has motivated me to put together a new topic regarding shipping. I have never before used G.H. But will consider using them for big items. I think the key is all in the packaging. Building it to withstand just about anything thrown at it.

I've used Fastenal a couple of times and they have a similar warning saying something like if it's not fully boxed there's no insurance available. Shrink wrapping, like most people do, apparently isn't covered.

Just adding a point of reference re: recent shipment with greyhound. I sent a RUF valence 8 days ago from Philly area to Connecticut, and it still hasn’t arrived. Called two days ago and was told it was in NYC and would be on an AM bus yesterday. Frustrating that they don’t have the ability to track packages during the shipping process.

This is a timely discussion as I need to figure out how to get a roof skin from Colorado to the East Coast. There isn't any good packaging for a roof skin with A, B, and C pillars.
Is UShip an option? How does Fastenal work? Thanks!
