Humbled by a yuppie biker

Last night I took my wife out to dinner. We were stopped at a light on the way home. A group of yuppie (weekend) bikers pulled up next to us & stopped. One of the bikers is looking at my SC & turns to one of the other bikers & says " Hey man, that's the kind of Porsche I want to own". I looked at my wife & smiled & thought "Thats cool! This biker knows SC's. In the bikers second sentence He says " Ya, an old dude is driving it." Whoa, this guy want's my car because an old dude is driving it. Who the hell could this guy be talking about ? Could he mean Me? My wife & I started laughing. We were laughing so hard that I couldn't respond to the biker when the light changed. I guess we all need a dose of reality & humility from time to time.

Craig

55, I don't think that's way old ! I was driving sorta slow prior to stopping at the light. When my wife is in the car, she complains about how loud the 2 out GHL is when going through the gears, yada yada. To keep peace when she is in the car (not that often) I drive conservatively.

Thanks, for the kind words. When I'm working on or driving my SC, old age is the furthest thing from my mind. I'm planning to do my first DE at Sebring later this year with one of my sons. I have almost completed the restoration & the upgrades on the car to be track ready. I want to be the old dude in the 550 also!! Eric, it's cool that my wife does not understand the porsche mystique. She is way generous in allowing me to spend more time & money on the car than I should. Bob, I like your choice in tunes, Craig

Craig? Let's face it...we all get "old". But it's relative...for me, it was the first time, at age 30 or so, a female fast food employee called me "sir"....gawd that hurt. Now, at 59? It's if I'm automatically given a "senior discount". You're driving an SC? I'm driving a '72S? Who cares if these young blobs of fetal tissue think we're old? Goferit, man! We only travel through this world once. Only now that we're "old"...we have more money!

Having a hobby like ours is what keeps you young, IMO. I hope that I am driving a 911 and enjoying it when I am 80, God willing.

I'm 43, and if some youngster calls me old, I tell 'em, "Yeah, and if you want to experience old age you'd better respect your elders right now".

A 911 on a great driving road and the tunes (R&R) up loud will help keep ya young. I'll be hitting 48 in a couple of months.

I would have never have appreciated what a Porsche is when I was in my 20's. Probably would have hurt myself or someone else showing off. I see it as a divine intervention that I couldn't afford it then. At 46, it just makes me smile.

At 53 YO I prefer ...vintage myself. Hey Craig, where in Clearwater are you. I live just past the SH spa. I know I have seen your car around town. Silver 70 S Targa. Looks like you shot that picture at Phillipe Park. You must be close to me.

At 56 something I'm just about out of puberty.
A lot of people refer to second childhood....can't imagine that at all...I'm not finished with my first one yet.
