What should I call it?
Been wondering, what do I call my car after I get the motor installed. The body is a 912e, but I'm putting a 3.0 6 cyl in it. 912, 911, 912-6?
|
912-6 has a certin ring to it..
|
912S, The S stands for sleeper. Well at least it is a Porsche engine in a Porsche Car.
|
911 Clone, or RS Clone if you make the rest of the mods.
Of the choices you present, I liked 912-6 the best because no matter what you do to it, it is a 912. Just like Jack's old car is a 911T. That being said, creative names like 911 Clone, or 912 sleeper, or 912 hot rod, 912-6, etc describe it better without misrepresenting its identity. Someone will probably come up with something more creative here -- but so far 912-6 sounds good. |
How about "FAST";)
|
whatever you do, leave the deck emblem alone...let 'em wonder. ;)
|
In keeping with the accepted name for 356's with your proposed modification, how about "Renegade 912"?
Jerry M '78 SC |
Good question. 912 is fine, let 'em wonder. I like 912-6. Along the lines of Renegade 912, how about Outlaw 912?
I think you can call it a 911 since there is no effective difference anymore, but there would always be that fine print of (used to be a 912). Bottom line: A rose by any other name... |
Looks like 4:1 for 912-6. Guess I'll check with the dmv when I register the car to see if the tag is available. :)
Thanks for the input guys. |
2+6=8...........918
|
Shoots, just keep it a 912, and let it be a sleeper...People will wonder how that 912 is so fast! ha ha...Have fun!
|
That would be a 912SC.

How about " Outlaw 912"
|
I like the 912-6 and 912SC. Keeps it roots while doing a bit of chest thumpin'.
Also, I don't think most folks would know how a 912 is different from a 911, so, the only ones that will appreciate the badge/name 912-6 are the ones that know Porsches. If I saw a nice 912 I would stop and look at it but if I saw a 912-6 or 912SC badge I would say "hmm, what do we have here?". Side note: With all the engine transplanting into early 911s, it would seem that there are a lot of sleepers out there. I know that when someone goes for a ride w/me, there response has always been "HOLY SMOKES! I had no idea a car this old could move like this!" Sounds like what my wife says about me when we go dancing. :D |
912sc, hmmm, that has a good ring too, sounds a little more like an 80's vintage, where as 912-6 sounds 70's. May have to add it to the poll.
