Race car found!!!

Hi, I have just located the 1967 Porsche 911 that placed 2nd in class and 11th overall at the 24 hours of Daytona in 1968. It was raced and owned by the Lewis Williams Racing Team.

I am hoping to go and view it this weekend. Its registered is out of date but is last registered to the Williams Racing Team.

What do I need know, what should I be looking for?

Does anyone have any further information about the team, the race, etc?

I will upload pics on Monday

thanks

Sounds cool. Might want to post over on the Early S registry forums too.

Apparently it used to be dark blue but at some point suffered a respray? Engine seems to have disappeared too.

Remarkably straight but so many parts in buckets, boxes and newspaper hard to tell if complete. Roll cage has been taken out as well...

Since you need to provide engine & transmission #'s for PCNA to confirm on the COA, I would skip that an get the Kardex which will have the info, and more than the COA anyway. Then you will know what engine # to search for, and stand a chance of finding it.. I can help. The VIN looks like 302369 which is an early 1966 model year car. Certainly the VIN tag was relocated in time for the 1967 model year with VIN above 305100.

I will email you guys with the procedure. Basically you need to email me for the instructions. I can only get them to end of 1969 model year.

Am I seeing this right? I can't read the chassis number in your picture, but the FIA paperwork and script on the glovebox suggest to me that the car is a '66 and not a '67?

Matt chassis number below the data plate is very hard to read but doable. Data plate is impossible.
But than my eyes are old.

FIA paperwork pretty clearly shows a year of construction as 1966 and a November 21st, 1966 application date.

Here you go..

A 1966 911!..Wow! - Quite a find!

1968 Trans Am - Daytona Winners

*Porsche 911 U-2 (*under 2 litres) - 575 laps

Williams car was #77 and it was dark blue...I would scratch the red paint somewhere to see if it was a dark blue. The value is still in the year and it's condition ay...He may have not raced this particular 911 as he probably owned more than one 911.

PS - I have the race results for most of the Trans Am Series races...In those days I was following the Mustangs and Camaro's. 911 P-cars were not the 'in thing'...Oh, how the times have changed eh!

The FIA document is a copy of the 2.0L 911 model homologation certificate. As such it is not specific to this car. Note the chassis and motor numbers listed: 300001 and 100101 -- the first in the series.

To prove race provenance, the Kardex will be needed. That seat is a good start. Look for other signs of a former race life like roll bar mounts, etc.

Nice find regardless!

Roll Bar Mount

I think you can make out the welding line from previous Roll bar mount in this pic.
