Source for fasteners, where do you get yours?

I’m wondering where you source your «*hard to find*» fasteners. Some of them are straight forward, some of them not so much. For example, I’m looking for these bolts:

M6 hexhead about 110mm half thread with a 75 pitch thread. These are the bolts holding the alternator to the fan housing.

I live in a small town and don’t have access to big hardware / autuparts stores.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Alex

Try McMaster Carr @ https://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-hex-head-screws/=1awvefy

They have an easy search feature for hardware. I found your request for about $5

Thanks Bill, maybe I’ll call them and see if they have that exact bolt. Doesn’t come up online. Close though.

The Internet is your solution, though shipping costs can be irritating for small quantities. I get most of my fasteners from Belmetric. The odd bits they don't have I buy from Pelican, et al. I also had good luck with Bolt Depot before finding Belmetric.

I think the other challenge is getting the correct yellow plating. McMaster and Bolt Depot don't seem to have them (at least they aren't easy to find), but Belmetric has a specific search category for yellow plated fasteners.

That looks like the best choice.

Alex, how cold in Golden these days??

I’ve had a tough time finding everything close by (in northern B.C.) so most of my Porsche related purchases come from our host with all of the duties, taxes, exchanges, etc. I’ve not tried McMaster Carr but I will.

Hoes your car looking now??

Mark

+1 for Belmetric

+2 Belmetric- fast shipping.

Balmetric sucked me in last night. Bought a bag of 300 yellow zinc washes. Probably 250 more than I need. 😕

Hi Mark, the car’s great, it’s keeping me busy during winter. I have a few projects going on right now and I have to stop myself from undertaking too many or else the car would be in a million pieces come summer. I’ve put 3299 problem / surprise free Kms last summer. What a blast to drive!

Thanks all for your help,

Alex

Catorce, are these the one size you got? Do you know the thread pitch on the required bolts?

Great "thread"!

Did somebody find the M6 0.75 thread pitch bolts that Alex599 is looking for ?
Most of the leads given are for M6 1.0 thread pitch bolts.

Same here. I’m using one of those plastic reference guide and I’m pretty damn sure it’s .75 and not 1. And the length is 105, not 110

Is there any chance that could be an M5 bolt with a standard 0.8mm thread pitch?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1515001487.jpg

KTL 01-03-2018 09:40 AM

Derek is correct. Those bolts for the alternator are M5 x 0.80 thread pitch.
