First Porsche ride of 2018

Today with my Wife and my friend and his wonderful Cayman we drove out on old highway 94 for a terrific ride. If you have never been in the south San Diego outback you are really missing a great ride. First stop was the old Delzura cafe built in the 20’s.The best street taco’s anywhere cooked on California oak. Then on to the Barrett junction cafe built in 1946. Very weird place that looks like the 40’s inside. Great fish fry!!! Old 94 has great turns, and super scenic views.

You an go to edit your post, scroll down to the bottom and cut the last IMG line. It looks like this:

That sure brings back memories. My best friend in HS moved to Jamul. I knew 94 like the back of my hand.

A few years ago SDR had a run out 94 then up to Julian. Lots of fun.

Is the white one a spaceship from the Planet X? Sure looks like one.

The only white stuff I see is the car. Where is the snow and ice? I hate you!

Sorry for no snow or ice. In San Diego we do not have winter. At all. In fact our coldest days are already behind us. We get average 10 inches of rain a year. Last time I saw snow was in the movie " Christmas Vacation ". But on the other hand our cars wear out faster than your cars do!!!

Also, I know that many of you do not like the new Porsche cars. But I must tell you, My friends 2014 Cayman S is the most incredible car I have ever driven. Come out of a corner in the back country and downshift to second and it takes off like a bat out of ####. But the best part of his flat six is the mean, angry, wonderful sound this things makes when you take off. My old car was very fun on this trip! I had a lot of fun trying to keep up with the Cayman.

Sounds like a fun day, Nick. And, you’ve given me more ideas about where to drive my Porsche in San Diego County.

My wife & I stopped in at the Barrett Junction Cafe for lunch today. Hwy 94 has some nice twisty sections. It’s always fun to try new roads/places.

My wife took the pic and didn’t get our 964 in it. Dang!

I have been driving that road for over 30 years. In Campo you have the San Diego railroad museum. Really cool. Volunteers restore the trains and the train takes you to the outback one hour out and one hour back. Great fun! Little hole in the wall places to eat. Also, just past Dulzura is the South Bay Rod and gun club. Terrific range Farther east just off old 94 is a huge county park out in the middle of nowhere! Really a nice park. It is called Potrero county park. Has picnic and camping grounds. Amazing. You will not be disappointed.

Looks like great fun! I haven't explored the twisties in San Diego besides Mt Palomar yet, but I should go to Old 94 when I visit my friends and family out in Coronado next time! Do you have any recommendations on other scenic roads to visit?

It's fun driving up to Palomar Mtn., except when it's swarming with crotch rockets. If you're a little further north, taking the Ortega Highway (CA-74) to Lake Elsinore is fun.

Eric, old 94 is amazing! So many hidden places. Easy from Coronado. It is in the south San Diego outback. A cool 50 mile ride to Campo with a lot of twisty turns. Also on another cool San Diego ride take the 67 highway up to Ramona, stay on this road and it will automatically turn into HI way 79 to Julian. Julian café is a terrific place to eat breakfast!!!! Many great places to eat. Julian gold rush hotel is a great place to stay. 150 year old hotel started by the founder. Each room filled with antiques. Very small rooms but just cool. Message me if you want to know about these places. Been my main drive for 30 plus years. First in a 356 and now in my 911. More fun in the 911!

Just did the Ortega highway. A fantastic ride. a lot of turns! And pretty! Very long ride. Places along the way to get grub and scenic views. Very famous. Magazines like Road and Track have tested cars on that road.
