1984 911 Clutch adjustment versus replacement
My 84 911 Is in excellent shape with about 55k miles. The car shifts and pulls well, clutch pedal travel appears normal. Since purchase 13 years ago I have driven about 1200 miles per year. Putting the car away this year after year end Service on a 15 degree morning I noticed a slight clutch (?) squeal during down shifts. About 3-4 times during a 30 minute drive to the garage. Service included new belts, tension looks good. Could this signal time for clutch replacement or adjustment? If so, what might be involved? What is the typical clutch life? Is clutch replacement an engine out repair? Is clutch fly wheel replacement regardless of condition smart? If so,any other routine work to be planned while the engine is out? Thank you Bill Veit

Clutch squeal could be related to the throw out bearing, but check belt tension first. At 55k, I would think the t/o bearing would still be ok. Another squeal noise common to a 915 transmission is a loose guide fork rubbing on internal parts when shifting.

your disk and plate should be OK.
as JW said. I would try to narrow down the squeal better before diving into pulling the engine
