Biggest brake set up for Fuchs?
I have a line on Brembo's that requires 17" wheels. I want to keep the Fuchs. What are the biggest brakes, caliper and rotor that I can put behind a 16" Fuch?
Many thanks, again. ------------------ Paul 78SC Targa Pelican Parts Members Gallery |

I am pretty sure you can stuff "big reds" under the (16") Fuchs, you just need to get the right (expensive) mounting adapters.

The 928S4 calipers will fit radially, but transversely even the 944 8x16 Fuchs(+23.3 mm os) will be tight. With 911 7x16 Fuchs(again +23.3 mm os) even the 944t/C4 calipers will need a small(~6mm) spacer.

I believe the late 930 brakes and rotors will fit within the 16" Fuchs. See Jack's car and others.
Boxster calipers and Carrera rotors should also fit inside the Fuchs. Sherwood Lee http://members.rennlist.org/911pcars |

Sherwood is of course correct, but the question was "biggest". The sizes from largest to smallest(excluding current 996 Monoblocs which I have no experience with);

The twin paths of righteousness. Above is Bill's 964 setup (front), below is my 930 setup (rear).
Both are good. If I remember correctly, his has a little more surface area at the calipers, mine might have more rotor surface area. Which is better? Probably his, since it's a newer design. But mine reminds me of the 917 brakes, which is nice and retro. ------------------ Jack Olsen My Rennlist page • My Pelican Gallery page • My Porsche Owners Gallery page |

In the front I have 928S4 (actually 993) calipers and 7x16 944 offset Fuchs fit over them fine. Adapters and floating rotor setup is from VCI.
In the rear I have 930 brakes and 8x16 Fuchs would _barely_ fit over them once I removed some material from the calipers. 9x16 Fuchs fit fine. Car is an '86 Carrera. Chris |

Oh, and I have a 964 C4 setup for sale, if anyone's interested. I got it right before I stumbled on a pair of the 77-78 front rotors, which enabled the 930 set to work.

Jack,
Your set and mine use the same pads and rotors. The main difference beside physical appearance is piston sizes. The 930 pistons are slightly smaller and so don't require a bigger mc. ------------------ Bill Verburg My Home Page |
