Got Boost?

Well, first of all, I know it's all about the driver. Anyways, we were two drivers on the same car and we were posting very close times. Well, here is the story, a friend of mine was kind enough to give me a pair of 7X16 and 8X16 old momo wheels to mount my race tires for track events. When I mounted the wheels on the track I saw that there was alot more horizontal clearance (no rubbing )between the rear fender and the tires when compared to my 8X16 fuchs that I normaly run. I neglected this and just thought it was my perception or maybe that the tires ran a little smaller than usual. Well, I felt the car a bit sloppy on the track and with a very uncontrollable oversteer. Also there was another similar 911 posting about 2 full seconds less with a similar setup( 50 seconds a lap ). What I was trying to get at, is that I just realized that I am running with a 944turbo offset on the back 23mm. I know this is not good but, could this be affecting me that badly. Maybe not 2 seconds, but I would think a good .5 to .75 of a second.
Sorry for the long post, FJM |

Wait wait wait...
EVERYbody knows that when you are _faster_ it's the driver, it's the car that makes you slower

Get some long studs and slip on spacers for the rear....take them off when using your street set up, or get the right offset.

I am going to take care of the offset situation, I will probably just use the fuchs for track days since I like them more and are probably lighter. But, I want to know how much this offset thing can affect the performance at the track?

Wow! You must be an awesome driver to notice <1/2" offset! I used 951 Fuchs on an 86 Carrera with 7/16" spacers to give the "911 offset" I did not have to install longer wheel studs. With the spacers and stock wheel studs I got 5 complete turns on the lug nut. I just sold my 951 Fuchs but still have the spacers. If interested email me.

I very seriously doubt that track width would account for any time differences. Especially when it is so little, as in your case. Tires pressures may be the issue you were having, since you said it felt squirrelly and oversteered. Still seems strange to me though, with race tires it should feel very planted unless the pressures are way off.

It would be an unnoticable difference. Check your tire pressures, sway bar mounts, camber....

diverging from factory offest, rim width, diameter, tyre pressure, tyre make, profile, width, considering suspension setup = improper handling
