Where to get keys cut..

I bought keys years ago from a local business then they told me they couldn’t cut the old style keys..

Anyhow I’d like to get these keys cut.

Wondering if there is any place I can go to in indianapolis to get keys cut for a 70s g body 911.

I don’t want to try my local dealership as they have NEVER been helpful in this matter for 20 years. They always use the excuse they do not have the machine to cut the old style keys.. I also need 5 keys cut..

My local lock shop cut keys no problem for my 1977 911S recently so I would look local and even ACE hardware would cut them I would think if you supplied the blanks.

I bought a new key (for my 1980 SC) from this website and had it cut at a local key place. They did it but couldn't guarantee that it would work, but it works perfectly and I've never had an issue.

I just had a bunch of old keys cut at true value, you can also buy an old key cutting machine off eBay.

I just had true value cut a set for me, not a problem. The older style keys is not an issue.

I found it to be hit or miss having moved around during an Army career. Actually came across a locksmith that refused to cut keys not purchased from them as their machine was once 'broken' by a key that they did not sell.

I've also heard the "we can't guarantee it will work/fit" reply as well.

No luck at HD or Lowes. My success has always been at a mom-pop type place.

A local porsche shop I buy parts from recommended a locksmith they use to cut keys. They charged me $5 bucks a key using their blanks and $3 to cut a blank I had. I'm sure if you call around to any local porsche garage they can probably steer you to the locksmith they use. Their blanks were nothing fancy but good quality and made in Italy.

Porsche dealerships would love to overcharge you for the key blanks, but I haven't found one that will cut them for you. I bought a blank from them and then dealership "tried" to cut it and handed me back a worthless stump and wouldn't refund me anything. This is after I called and asked if they could do it beforehand.

A skilled locksmith is usually my preferred source. They do charge more but will often test the key to make sure it works before charging for it. Most hardware stores can cut house keys pretty easily but stumble often with vintage automotive keys.

I had new keys cut by the local Porsche dealership. Don't remember the cost but I'd rather have a proper key that works and looks the part than some cheap key made of pot metal.

I took my lighted head key unassembled. I also agree that finding a skilled, experienced locksmith to cut the keys is the way to go. I tried one locksmith shop randomly, and the key would not work in the lock. Wasted $27 for the blank. After looking around, I found a good locksmith who cut the key without any problems. Finding a good locksmith is kind of difficult. There are a ton of "mobile" locksmiths, but they charge a fortune.

I've had a lot of keys cut, and I have a local ace that has done the job, and I have a real locksmith who can do anything. I still have to supply the blanks for rare older cars.

928 keys are the ones you have to have a special machine to cut. I have spent 100 dollars on a key, but now there is some internet guy who cuts them from pictures for much less.

If I don't have a spare key, I don't feel right. We all know ''that guy''.

Cutting keys is not rocket science, you can buy an old key cutting machine off eBay or build one easily.

This looks interesting they can cut a key from a picture or scanned image. They are in Australia

I had mine cut unassembled at my local Home Hardware store... no issues for them at all, and less than $3.00 for both new keys. Such a deal!
